The Biome-BGC ecosystem process model - improved by the Knowledge Base and e-Informatics Group - is now running on the GRID system of computers with EDGeS@Home desktop grid thanks to the cooperation of the Institute of Ecology and Botany, CER HAS (MTA ÖK ÖBI) and the Laboratory of Parallel and Distributed Systems, Institute for Computer Science and Control (MTA SZTAKI PERL).
The desktop grid technology makes it possible to run the model paralelly even in several thousand copies. We can use this opportunity while running the model's - working with daily meteorological data - sensitivity-analysis, calibration and spatial extension. During the realization we use the so called "web service" and "workflow management" technologies, the implementation and improvement of which is made possible by the BioVeL project.
The BOINC - SZTAKI desktop grid technology uses the free capacities of participating computers. The volunteering participants of the network can still work safely and without any "harmful side effects" in their usual environment with the good feelings in mind that they support interesting and important scientific research projects by their offers (to join as a volunteer click here).
The Biome-BGC ecosystem process model is developed by the NTSG team of The University of Montana, but with the leading of Zoltán Barcza (Eötvös Loránd University, CER HAS) we are working on a version which is more developed in many aspects .
