Agreement with Laboratory of Parallel and Distributed Systems, MTA SZTAKI

The Institute of Ecology and Botany, CER HAS made a long term strategic agreement with the Laboratory of Parallel and Distributed Systems, Institute for Computer Science and Control (MTA SZTAKI PERL), aiming to apply leading-edge technology and service of BOINC - SZTAKI Desktop Grid based on the offerings of volunteering participants to support the Biome-BGC ecosystem modelling research planned within the BioVel project.

MTA SZTAKI PERL provides consultation, technological background, expertise and documentation for adapting the modelling application into the "desktop grid", furthermore it ensures access to the "grid User Support Environment" portal and supports the use of the SZTAKI Desktop Grid and/or EDGeS@home.

The MTA ÖK IEB is a cooperating partner in clarifying the technological details of the Biome-BGC model porting, takes part in advertising the new application and finding new volunteers, organizes an event for this purpose, on which the advantages of the grid technology are demonstrated, furthermore our experiences are shared with the colleagues of PERL and a tutorial event is organized regarding the use of the new infrastructure. When publishing of scientific results takes place the relevant articles of the PERL will be cited.

The ageement was signed by Prof. Dr. Péter Kacsuk, the Head of PERL Laboratory of MTA SZTAKI and Dr. András Báldi, director general of MTA ÖK. The contact person from PERL is József Kovács and from IEB (BioVel project) is Ferenc Horváth.
