BioVeL - Biome-BGC Ecosystem Modeling

The main goal of the BioVeL - Biome-BGC ecosystem modelling is the simulation of behaviour of terrestrial ecological systems (forests, grasslands, agricultural areas) as accurately as possible.

Primarily carbon flux and water balance can be modelled with real and estimated input data. Decades or centuries are simulated in the past or projected into the future just in few minutes. Study of reactions of ecological systems for changing environmental conditions is a great progress The estimation of the quantitative measures and geographical pattern of the Ecosystem Service Indicators (ESI) - which are known to be monitored hardly - are made available with our BioVeL - Biodiversity Virtual Laboratory solution.

This project paves the way to a better understanding of the interactions between vegetation, human land use and climate change to improve our ability to make wiser decisions.

The Biome-BGC version 4.1.1 was provided by the Numerical Terradynamic Simulation Group (NTSG) at the University of Montana. Biome-BGC 4.1.1 MPI version was kindly provided by Galina Churkina (the MPI version contain model code modifications documented in Trusilova et al. 2009 MPI-BGC Technical Report 16).
