Brief description of the main scopes: 

1. Investigations of relationship between environmental variables and trait-level changes of periphytic diatoms in rivers and lakes.
• We have available long-term (1995-2009) phytobenthos data series from the previous surveys of Szigetköz. Our aim is to study the effect of anthropogenic interventions (eg diversion of the Danube River) on phytobenthic communities
• Investigation of the effect of environmental gradients on occurrence and morphology of diatoms in extreme habitats (saline lakes).
2. Ecological status assessment of rivers and lakes based on diatoms.
