Two lichen species, Cladonia magyarica Vain. and Solorinella asteriscus Anzi, were studied as part of an international project for the mapping of lichens in Europe. Available information on anatomy, chemistry, ecology, biogeography and taxonomy is summarized. Confusion about the lectotypification of Cladonia magyarica is clarified. European distribution maps of the species are given and the distributions before and after 1975 are discussed. Black and white drawings of the two species are included.
